How to install FormulaDesk from the zip file

FormulaDesk products can be installed in two ways: running the setup exe or by downloading the zip file and manually installing the XLL add-in files (inside the zip file). The setup exe is a setup program. When you launch it, it will install FormulaDesk for you, quickly and easily. The alternative, the zip file, is for users that can’t install normal setup programs, usually due to corporate IT restrictions and rules. The zip file contains all the files necessary to run FormulaDesk, however some further steps need to be performed:

  1. Determine if your version of Excel is 32-bit or 64-bit:
    1. Click on the 'File' menu
    2. Click on 'Accounts' on the left menu bar.
    3. Click on 'About Excel' button.
  2. Look for the Excel version on the first line in the new window.
  3. Download and save this file:
  4. Extract (unzip) the files to a folder. You should not move or rename this folder after installing the Add-In.
  5. In Excel, click on the 'File' menu.
  6. Select 'Options' on the left menu bar.
  7. In the pop-up window that appears, select 'Add-Ins' on the left menu bar.
  8. In the drop-down menu near the bottom of this window, select 'Manage: Excel Add-Ins' and click 'Go'.
  9. A new pop-up window will appear. Click 'Browse...', locate the file FormulaDesk32.XLL or FormulaDesk64.XLL (depending on whether your version of Excel is 32-bit or 64-bit, from step 1 above) in the folder from Step 2 and then click 'OK'.
  10. In the add-ins window, make sure the check box next to 'FormulaDesk' is ticked. Click 'OK'.
  11. You may receive a security warning asking you if you want to allow macros and internet access by the 'FormulaDesk' add-in. Click 'OK' to allow these. Also, make sure your Excel security is not set to 'disable all macros without notification'.
  12. Close and re-open Excel to verify that the Add-In has been installed correctly. If you see a 'FormulaDesk' tab above your ribbon, then you know the Add-In has been installed correctly.
